Manchester Thunder are delighted to announce that they have re-signed the versatile defender, Rebekah Airey.
The 24-year-old joined Manchester Thunder from Loughborough Lightning to be closer to her hometown of Wigan and develop all aspects of her game under the coaching talent of Karen Greig. She is now in her third season with the club where playing across GK, GD and WD, is invaluable at reinforcing their defensive unit.
Airey started her netball career at an early age and represented Tyldesley Netball Club and then later joined Tameside Netball Club where her talent was recognised, and she started to stand out as an accomplished player. Airey commented that her mother was the one who introduced her into netball and jokes that, “she threw me and my siblings into every sport she could find to tire us out when we were young and netball was the one that stuck because it was so social.”
About re-signing for Thunder, Airey said, “I’m super excited to be back at Thunder for the 2021 season. I’ve been missing netball like crazy these past few months so I’m “doubly” looking forward to getting back on court and defending our Superleague title. My personal goal for this season is to become a better player all round – faster, quicker and even better at reading the game so I can get as many intercepts and disruptions as possible”
Manchester Thunder Director of Netball and Head Coach Karen Greig has said, “It’s great to have Rebekah back with us. In the few games we played in 2020 she demonstrated what a huge impact she can have when she is on court, and her ability to play across the back three defensive positions is key. Her energy and vivacious enthusiasm both on and off court are infectious and act to motivate and drive the team.”
