Manchester Thunder can confirm South African star Lenize Potgieter has been released from her contract under medical grounds.
Following stints in New Zealand and Australia, Potgieter enjoyed a season back in the UK Netball Super League leading Thunder to the play-offs, boasting the second highest goal tally in the league and winning both Coaches’ Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards.
Potgieter headed into World Cup preparations in fine form, however, after featuring for the Spar Proteas against Jamaica she was later ruled out due to injury.
Head Coach Karen Greig said, “We have had to make the very difficult decision to release Lenize for the 2024 season. A stand-out player and popular squad member, we were very much looking forward to having her back. Unfortunately, we had to make this decision based on medical information and the demands of international and domestic netball ahead.”
“On behalf of Manchester Thunder I would like to thank her for what she brought to our club on and off the court last season. We wish her well in her recovery and all the best for the next chapter following her recent marriage.”
