Manchester Thunder have raised a whopping £15,000 for Text Santa following the ITV charity netball match.
The second soap showdown between Coronation Street and Emmerdale brought together cast and crew members from each show. They were joined on court at the Thunderdome in Gorton by players from two Superleague teams, roses rivals Manchester Thunder (Corrie) and Yorkshire Jets (Emmerdale). Charley Webb’s Emmerdale emerged victorious 18-22, after Corrie had won the inaugural match in 2013. |
Alongside ticket sales, money was raised through an auction of signed dresses from each team, which raised over £1500.
Brief highlights of this year’s game will be shown on ITV3 tonight at 7.20pm in the Text Santa marathon show with Phillip Schofield. Schofield is attempting to present a live show for 24-hours, with the help of guest presenters, to raise money for the six charities Text Santa supports. They are Teenage Cancer Trust, Guide Dogs, WellChild, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Alzheimer’s Society and Together for Short Lives. Debbie Hallas, Thunder Managing Director, said: “To raise such a huge amount for Text Santa is amazing. The event gets bigger every year and I would like to thank Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Yorkshire Jets for their contribution in making it such a success.” |
