Boasting 456 feeds across the 2023 season, mid-courter Amy Carter has signed up for a sixth season with Manchester Thunder.
Amy came back with a vengeance last season following an enforced year out with an ACL injury. The 24-year-old is a pathway product of the black and yellows and elevated herself into a regular starting role back in 2021.
Amy said, “It was a hard year in rehab after rupturing my ACL, but it was made a whole lot easier coming out in front of all the fans, who are always super supportive. I think we have the best fans in the league.”
“Quite a few players I played with through the pathway, came back to Thunder having learnt new things from other franchises, so it was really great to continue that development as a team and play with all these girls again.”
She added, “My favourite memory of the season was probably the first match playing Loughborough. I had loads of people asking me for tickets [after the game sold out] and seeing if they could get in there for the first game and obviously, we won and that was a really great atmosphere to play in front of.”
Since appearing in every game last season, Amy earned herself a spot as a training partner with the silver medal-winning England Roses World Cup Squad.
Amy said, “I was actually at work when I found out about being reserve, and they told me the news on zoom and I was super happy. I was really happy to get the opportunity to get out there and experience a Netball World Cup, prior to actually being in a World Cup hopefully in the future.”
“We really worked on our culture and our psychological aspect of the sport. I’d like to bring that to Thunder this year, along with some of the connections I built with some of the girls out there.”
When Amy isn’t playing netball, she has her career as a junior doctor. Speaking about juggling both career paths, Amy said, “It has been hard at times. I very much have to be super organised but they have been really great at understanding and being flexible.”

She is a really intelligent player, who is almost stealth-like and can win the ball just at the right time. Her timing and natural instincts in attack complement our style of play and her fearlessness to release the ball into shooters is enviable. I am looking forward to seeing Amy build and push forward again this season.”
Amy concluded, “I’m looking forward to big and loud Thunder crowds. Hopefully we get another AO arena game because that was a great atmosphere last year and to play with this squad and win our trophy back!”
