We had a great week coaching both regular and new campers. On the Saturday following camps we had our big clash against Loughborough Lightning. After a close first round against the side and an awareness that Lightning needed to win the game to have any chance of reaching semi-finals we knew we were in for another tough round of VNSL. The game lived up to expectations and both teams came out fighting. I’m happy to say that although we weren’t completely happy with the performance we were happy to get another win. Following the game, we had our usual masses of fans crowding us on court for photos, autographs and high fives.
Amongst the fans Emma and I where delighted to see so many Thunder Campers at the game to support but two little girls stood out in particular. Katie Barnett and Freya Healey-Clements and who play for Chadderton Park netball club. After a lengthy discussion the girls and their parents we were informed that “they will be playing under pressure tomorrow because they have a game” and “that they were good at shooting before but now they’re even better” all because they had been practicing their skills on camp over Easter. Unfortunately, up to that point the girls were yet to win a netball game. Naturally we give them a pep talk in hope that it would help them secure their first win. I’m happy to announce that they WON their first game! Congratulations girls and we will have to get your autographs on the next camp!
In other news we have two huge games coming up in our double header weekend. First we take on Storm in yet another big game. Two top four teams battling to keep a positive momentum going into semi finals. Then on Monday we have our very first Netball Manchester Live at the MEN arena. The girls are really excited for a weekend full of big games. This is what we train for. These are the games we want to play. This is what we love!
Hope to see you guys on Monday tickets are still available at……
