Our game against Team Northumbria was a bit of a strange one. A shocking second quarter left us all ending the game feeling pretty deflated. However, looking back at the match we did some really good things and the stats back this up. It’s a sign of our rising expectations as a squad that a 22 goal win can be looked at as a slight disappointment.
This training week has mainly focused on fixing the areas that let us down last Saturday and looking towards Dragons this weekend. Two solid sessions have left us feeling positive and raring to go in our first home game of the season.
There were a lot of Thunder supporters in the crowd last week in Birmingham and it’s always great to see when you’re playing away from home. This week the Thunderdome is a sell-out and we can’t wait to play in front of our home crowd again. The popularity of netball is soaring right now and it’s a huge buzz to play in front of big crowds. Even though it’s over two months away the thought of thousands of Thunder fans packing into the Manchester Arena for Netball Manchester Live is exciting.
It seems that celebrities are also loving netball at the minute. Helen Housby has got a new bessie in Ferne McCann from TOWIE and hopefully she will be at a thunder game soon.
My personal highlight of the week came during training courtesy of Malysha, our very own sunshine girl. When calling to her defensive partner she forgot her Jamaican roots and screamed “JOOOOODEEEEE” in the most northern accent I’ve ever heard. Although we’re pleased that she’s settling in so quickly I think we may have to ban her from spending time with Nat, otherwise Dan will need a translator soon.
A great performance this weekend at a packed Thunderdome will round this week off nicely….hope to see you there!
