The tournament, now in its fourth year, has become a popular fixture in the pre-season calendar and this time around, will involve Celtic Dragons, Loughborough Lightning, Team Bath Team Northumbria and Yorkshire Jets.
On Saturday 28th November, fans could get the chance to see new players and coaches in action for the first time, notably Thunder’s Nat Haythornthwaite and Jets’ Stacey Francis, who has made the switch from Team Bath. Senior squad members will also be joined by NPL players for the tournament. It will also be the first major outing for Black and Yellows coach Dan Ryan and former England boss Anna Stembridge (nee Mayes), who has joined Team Bath. Thunder have triumphed in the previous three tournaments, but were pushed right to the limit in last year’s final, eventually fending off Loughborough Lightning 13-12. The contest, which is named in honour of former Thunder head coach Mike Greenwood, who passed away in 2011, will be held at the Thunderdome in Gorton.
Debbie Hallas, Manchester Thunder managing director, said: “The MGT is a great opportunity to preview the Vitality Netball Superleague 2016 squads before the season starts. It will also be a good chance for coaches to get to see players in a match environment before they select their official 15 for the VNSL.”
