It was great to get back onto court after a long break following our defeat of Surrey Storm. Our match against five times Superleague champions Team Bath was highly anticipated following our exciting semi-final match last season. In the match build up we had our fantastic player cards on sale for the first time and these went down a bomb, my hand is still aching, I’ve never signed so many autographs before.
The match was full of everything, it was a physical contest, but we had a purple patch in the second quarter not allowing Team Bath to score for a ten minute period. This allowed us to take out a great lead in the match, plus it allowed most of the squad to gain valuable court time. It was great to get on court in front of a sell-out crowd, who roared us onto victory. We definitely have the loudest crowd in Superleague! |
So with another victory under our belts we had fab post-match hospitality provided by Relish who is our new supplier this season. I enjoyed lovely home-made lasagne, it’s good to refuel with tasty carbs.
On Sunday we were back in for some performance analysis reviewing the Bath game and looking ahead today’s match against Mavericks. It was a really upbeat session as we had played some great netball and are feeling in really good form. After this we were allowed to let our hair down a little in a recovery pool session, including a very competitive game of water polo!
Teams were chosen by hair colour and I am pleased to say I was happy to be a part of the winning ‘dark-haired’ team. There were a few ‘dunkings’ and it did get feisty. Normally a formidable defensive pairing on court, Emma Dovey took great delight in dunking Kerry Almond while Sara and Laura had quite a battle underwater.
I can’t wait for tonight’s match against Hertfordshire Mavericks, back in front of our awesome home crowd. Mavericks have the strongest squad on paper and with both teams remaining unbeaten so far, there will only be one of us at the top of the table after the new ‘play to a result’ ruling. So get yourselves down to the Thunderdome because one things for sure it will be a cracking game tonight.
Discounted on-line tickets will be available until 3pm, with tickets available on the door from 5pm.
