With the Manchester Thunder 2023 squad now announced, we are very excited to announce our leadership team for the upcoming season.
Karen Greig, Head Coach of Manchester Thunder, said, “I am delighted with our leadership team for the forth coming season. In choosing a leadership team, there are a number of qualities in the personnel that you have to make sure you have covered. I am excited to work alongside this group as we keep building on a culture that I am proud to be a part of.”
Natalie Metcalf – Thunder Captain 2023
Karen said, “Nat has proven at international level that she is a world class leader. She is a real people person with great communication skills and leads by example both on and off the court. Her empathetic & caring nature, as well as her determination for success will prove a great asset for us as our new captain.”
Natalie said, “It’s a huge honour being asked by Karen to captain the team this season. Thunder have an incredible environment with a great history of players and coaches, and I’m honoured to be a part of it. I’m really proud of what we were able to achieve in 2022 and I am really excited to see what we can do together in 2023. Being part of thunder there is a huge sense of family; one that I was welcomed back into so warmly last season and I am really looking forward to continuing on that journey with the club. We’ve got a really exciting group – there’s a great buzz around the team and I can’t wait to get to started with everyone!”
Shadine van der Merwe – Thunder Co-Vice-Captain 2023
Karen said, “Shadine was an obvious choice for me as a new member of our leadership team as a vice captain, although she has only been with us for a season she has more that proven that she can be trusted in this position, a perfectionist and a workhorse she is so well respected within the franchise.
Shadine said, “I am grateful for this opportunity to be part of the leadership group for 2023 and really excited to see what the Thunder team is going to put out there and looking forward to do this alongside Nat and Kerry. All I can say is bring on next season.”
Kerry Almond – Thunder Co-Vice-Captain 2023
Karen said, “Kerry is part of our DNA. She knows our franchise and what we stand for inside and out and there is no better choice to complete our leadership team. Her impact on the squad is immeasurable and the work and time she invests into our younger squad members can never be underestimated.”
Kerry said, “I’m so proud and honoured to be part of the leadership group once again. I can’t wait to get the full team back together and work with Shadine to support Nat in her role as captain. It’s an exciting team for 2023 and I can’t wait to get going.”
